Abstract

Gombak River located northern part of Klang Valley and runs through two
municipal areas which are Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) and Kuala Lumpur City Hall
(DBKL) under coverage of River of Life Project (RoL). The river water quality was
categorized within Class II and Class III, National Water Quality Standards for Malaysia
(NWQS) under Department of Environmental Malaysia (DOE). InfoWorks RS as wide
acceptable hydrodynamic model has been used to simulate the flow data. The relationship
between Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Ammonical Nitrogen (AN) and river flow at
three different types of landuse 1.forested, 2.semi-urban and 3.urban was studied. The result
indicates the concentration of BOD and AN against the flow at three landuse area had the
same trend. Concentration of BOD and AN found decrease with increased of flow while the
concentration and flow values increased running through different types of landuse. The BOD
and AN score were very high indicate the river water influenced by return water such as
industrial wastewater and domestic sewage.
