The application of B2 bytes for implementation of an adaptive error correction scheme for WDM optical networks

Abstract

This letter proposes a new application of B2 bytes to implement an adaptive forward error correction (FEC) scheme for wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) networks. The adaptive FEC scheme uses a dedicated WDM channel to transmit the FEC redundancies of all the SDH payloads in the network. Different FEC codes are assigned to the payloads adaptively based on the analysis of the B2 bytes. Simulation results show that the B2 analysis can be used for implementation of the adaptive FEC scheme with small discrepancies of less than 0.5 order.
